Fantasy Premier League: Capitalise on Ings's form

Another international break has drawn to a close, which means Fantasy Premier League is back! What shape is your team in and how can you improve it?

Don't ignore Ings's hot streak

With 33 points this season, Danny Ings (£5.9m) is Southampton’s most productive FPL asset so far, and is a man in form with four goals in his last three games.

He’s the highest-scoring forward under £6m, and an attractive proposition to free up cash in other areas of your squad.

Nearly half of Ings’s points have come in the last two FPL gameweeks, so now is the time to pounce before his price rises again, and the striker is fresh after two weeks off.

Redmond to haunt Wolves again?

It’s been a stop-start season for Nathan Redmond (£6.3m) so far, but the winger remains Saints’ most dangerous attacking player.

Having featured in every game in all competitions last term, he’s already had to make do with time off the pitch this time around, but will be itching to make his mark on 2019/20.

Redmond scored twice last time he faced Wolves and his two goals so far this season have come on the road, where his pace and directness suits Saints’ counter-attacking style.

Yoshida offers value for money

Cut-price defenders who play regularly are very useful commodities in FPL, which makes Maya Yoshida (£4.4m) an intriguing proposition.

The Japanese international is the cheapest of Saints’ senior players, but has started four of the club’s last five matches.

On top of that, he came close to scoring against Tottenham in Saints’ last away game and was on target for his country last week.

Looking further afield? Here are some lesser-selected budget buys you should be targeting in the transfer market, who are all owned by less than 10% of FPL managers…

Goalkeeper: Roberto £4.4m (0.6%)

With Lukasz Fabianski sidelined by injury until the new year, Roberto becomes an instantly attractive proposition for a modest fee.

You’ll struggle to find a cheaper starting stopper, and West Ham have back-to-back home games against Sheffield United and Newcastle after Saturday’s trip to struggling Everton.

Defender: Caglar Söyüncü £4.7m (7.0%)

With attacking duo James Maddison and Jamie Vardy attracting many of the plaudits for Leicester’s impressive start, Söyüncü has filled the void left by Harry Maguire impressively.

The Foxes have not kept clean sheets too regularly, but after a tough run of fixtures they now face only one member of the traditional top six in their next nine outings.

Midfielder: Callum Hudson-Odoi £5.9m (1.2%)

Chelsea assets are a good place to start if you’re looking for reasonably-priced targets to help you climb your mini-league.

Fikayo Tomori (£4.7m), Mason Mount (£6.8m) and Tammy Abraham (£7.7m) should all be considered, but if you want to mix things up go for Hudson-Odoi, who is in red-hot form right now and could wreak havoc against Newcastle this weekend.

Forward: Josh King £6.3m (9.6%)

Not many teams have outscored Bournemouth this season, and next up are two games against the bottom two teams in the Premier League, with Norwich and Watford conceding a massive 41 times between them already.

It all points towards more goals for the Cherries, and, while Callum Wilson is perhaps the obvious choice, King offers a cheaper alternative and takes the penalties – as he did to deadly effect for Norway against Spain last weekend.
