The young Saints return to Under-18s Premier League action this Saturday, hosting Tottenham Hotspur at Staplewood Campus...
Another week, another tough match-up in the league for Southampton’s youngsters, who entertain mid-table Spurs tomorrow morning.
After getting off the mark against Arsenal in late August, Paul Hardyman’s side suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Fulham last time out - who occupy the league’s top spot and remain unbeaten.
There has been a steady influx of Under-18s players making their Under-23 debuts, however, which is continuing to please lead coach Hardyman, despite a frustrating run of results.
"Last week against Fulham we were in the game for an hour, then gave away three quick goals that detracted away from a good performance up until that point," Hardyman reflected.
"We’re very inconsistent at the moment. It was a great result away at Arsenal a few weeks ago, and then we let ourselves down at Fulham.
"We’ve been punished for individual mistakes recently, but we’re working hard on the training ground to put it right.
"Last week we had six Under-18s in the Under-23s squad, which is very encouraging. That’s what it’s about, progressing young players through the system.
"If that’s happening regularly, we won’t dwell too much on individual results in games."
