Reunited and reinvigorated, our Saints Goal participants from across our last three cohorts got together this month to talk through their experiences and update their health scores.
The project looks at getting men over the age of 35 and with a waist line of more than 36 together to work on creating positive change to their lifestyle through exercise and nutrition.
Each cohort of 15 works through a 12-week plan with our Health staff, taking part in activities from the ParkRun at Southampton Common to walking football.
On their return to the stadium, our group talked through the challenges they had faced since leaving the project, as well as the camaraderie they had built up with the group – many WhatsApp and Facebook groups set up since the conclusion of their sessions.
They also took part in health tests conducted by our staff and results were hugely positive with the group continuing to improve their health away from the sessions with the majority of them keeping weight off.
From the start of the course to the reunion session, our group had lost six per cent of their total weight, body fat had decreased 30.9 per cent and resting heart rate had reduced too.
Habits kept up, a huge success for the team.
One of those to feel the benefit of Saints Goal is Ron Atwill. Speaking about his time on Saints Goal, he said: “My time with the course has been phenomenal. I started demotivated and overweight and they have changed habits that lasted 30 years.
“We have such a great bunch of lads that will stay friends. I can’t thank the staff enough.”
