Ralph Hasenhüttl hailed the reaction of his team after Southampton secured a first win of the new season with victory at Brighton.
The manager recognised there was pressure on his side after opening the campaign with two defeats, and is not underestimating the significance of today’s result.
Goals from Moussa Djenepo and Nathan Redmond earned the points, as Saints won at the Amex with a clean sheet for the third successive visit.
“It’s massively important for everything,” Hasenhüttl said. “After two games without a point you are under pressure, that’s normal.
“It was a good reaction from my team, to believe in what we are doing and prove we can win games in the Premier League.
“We had a good game here last season, winning 1-0, and this game was not easy again today.
“We had a well-organised opponent with a lot of self-confidence, so we tried to find a good balance between having ball possession and playing in front.
“We can do that much better – it’s something we must develop, but two fantastic one against one situations, one time Moussa and one time Sofiane, have decided the game.
“I’m happy for Moussa and for Nathan to get their first goals. I think it’s important for both.”
