Ralph Hasenhüttl was pleased with summer signing Moussa Djenepo’s contribution following his Premier League debut against Liverpool on Saturday.
The Malian international entered the field at St Mary’s in the 77th minute, deployed down the left, and was an instant threat from wide positions.
He’ll be an option for future weeks for the manager, who was largely happy with Saints’ performance against Jürgen Klopp’s side, despite being unable to claim a share of the points.
“It's important that you don't give up,” Hasenhüttl explained. “I saw a team that was believing until the last minute. Unfortunately, okay is not good enough against teams like Liverpool.
“To win against such a team you need to have a perfect game and we didn't quite have that.
“Bringing Moussa on was an offensive substitution. We tried to bring him into the game and force 1v1 situations and he had a few good ones.
“One situation was the moment where we created a chance. It's good for him to come in and to be able to show strength first time.”
