Saints beaten in Premier League opener
It was a tough start to the new season for Southampton, who were beaten 3-0 at Turf Moor on the opening weekend.
Saints shaded a closely-fought first half, but Ashley Barnes’s first goal to break the deadlock on 63 minutes proved the turning point.
Barnes struck again before Johann Berg Gudmundsson completed the scoring in a 12-minute blitz.
Liverpool next up in first home game
Saints are back in competitive action at St Mary’s for the first time in three months when European champions Liverpool come to town on Saturday (3pm BST kick-off).
The Reds made a flying start to their latest Premier League title bid on Friday night, running out 4-1 winners over newly-promoted Norwich.
Limited tickets are still available for the game online to supporters with a purchase history since 2013/14.
Under-23s complete extraordinary comeback
It was a stunning start to life back in the top flight of Premier League 2 for Saints, who miraculously overturned a 3-1 deficit at Man City with just five minutes to go.
Radhi Jaïdi’s side made it 3-2 through skipper Tom O’Connor, before Dan N’Lundulu struck a dramatic last-gasp brace to win the game at City’s Academy Stadium.
Kornelius Hansen was also on target for the young Saints, who won promotion through the Division Two play-offs last season.
Under-18s threaten late revival
Fighting to the end was also a feature at Staplewood on Saturday, where Saints Under-18s narrowly lost out to their Aston Villa counterparts.
Paul Hardyman’s team found themselves 3-0 down in the closing stages of a game played in driving wind and rain, but still left their visitors holding on for victory.
This was after Benni Smales-Braithwaite and Roland Idowu both found the net in the final ten minutes, but the comeback proved too little too late to salvage a point.
Women set for league opener
Southampton FC Women get their FA Women’s National League Division One South West campaign under way this weekend.
Saints travel to Chesham (kick-off 2pm BST) on the opening day after winning promotion with a flawless league season last term.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side will be looking to continue the winning momentum that also saw them capture the League Cup in 2018/19.
Danso arrives at Staplewood
Southampton welcomed its newest Saint yesterday, as Kevin Danso arrived for his first day at Staplewood.
The 20-year-old defender was signed just in the nick of time before the summer transfer window closed on Thursday evening.
You can watch his first interview below and see the best photos from the day here.
Quartet depart St Mary’s
Transfer deadline day also saw two outgoings from St Mary’s, as Charlie Austin completed a permanent transfer to West Brom and Harrison Reed joined Fulham on a season-long loan.
Josh Sims has also departed on loan, joining New York Red Bulls until December 31st, which was announced the day before deadline day.
The club has also confirmed the departure of First Team Assistant Manager Danny Röhl, who has taken up a role with a Bundesliga club.
Redmond signs long-term contract
Nathan Redmond last week put pen to paper on a new four-year deal at St Mary’s.
Saints’ Player of the Year last season strengthened his commitment with the club by signing until 2023.
Redmond scored a career-high nine goals in 2018/19, all of which were scored after the December arrival of manager Ralph Hasenhüttl.
St Mary’s to host fans’ forum
The next in Southampton’s series of fans’ forums will take place at St Mary’s on Thursday at 7pm BST.
Chief Executive Martin Semmens, Managing Director Toby Steele, First Team Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl and captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg have all been confirmed on the panel.
Tickets are available online to Season Ticket Holders and Official Members only, priced £2, with all proceeds going to Saints Foundation and the vital work it carries out in the community.
Saints to discover Carabao Cup opponents
The Carabao Cup returns this week, with all remaining first round ties taking place.
The meeting between Salford City and Leeds United is being screened live on Sky Sports on Tuesday, with the second round draw likely to follow.
Saints reached the fourth round last season, defeating Everton and Brighton away from home before losing out to Leicester on penalties.
Tickets on sale for Man Utd clash
Tickets for Saints’ second Premier League home game of the season, against Manchester United, are on sale online.
The Category A* fixture is available to supporters with a purchase history since 2013/14.
There is a £5 discount for Official Saints+ Members for this game.
Third kit available online
Southampton’s third and goalkeeper kits are now available to purchase online and in stores.
The club is confident the home and away kits will be on sale by the time of the Manchester United fixture at St Mary’s on Saturday 31st August.
We would like to apologise to our fans for the delay and the frustrations this has understandably caused, and thank them for their continued patience as we resolve this issue.
