Oriol Romeu has set his sights on a much-improved display when Southampton meet Liverpool next weekend at St Mary’s.
Saints fell to a 3-0 defeat at Burnley on the opening day after an Ashley Barnes brace was followed up by a goal from Johann Berg Gudmundsson.
Romeu was quick to lament the way the side let the game drift away from their grasp after the opener and says the first home game of the Premier League campaign provides an opportunity for redemption, despite tough opposition.
He said: “We really want to get a good result. We have a strong team in front of us that we are playing next week. Last season we were very close and I think we competed very well against them.
“This season I think we are going to have our chances against them. They like to play more from the back and take more risks.
“Now we have offensive players who are very good at pressing and they’re going to have their chances. I’m really sure it won’t be an easy game for them and we’ll get our chances.”
