Jan Bednarek reflected on the perfect sign off to pre-season and says Southampton will be ready for the opening day at Burnley next weekend.
Goals from Danny Ings and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg either side of the interval earned a 2-0 victory over German club 1. FC Köln in front of 14,871 inside St Mary’s.
And while Bednarek spotted improvements that can worked on in the coming week, he was pleased with the final friendly.
“The most important was to get ready physically and mentally. I think we did a good job, a win and a clean sheet and we’re looking forward to the start of the Premier League,” he said.
“I think it’s just to find the balance between high press, deep pressing and midfield press because there were some moments of the game where we could not press but we tried to do, we are sometimes a little bit too brave.
“I think that’s positive and when we find the balance we will be a really nasty opponent.
“There are things to improve but we still have seven days to work on and we’ll be ready on Saturday.”
