WHAT’S AT STAKE?
Saints return to St Mary’s after three months away, hosting German opposition for the third pre-season in succession.
It’s the last of five friendlies for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men, who have won three and drawn one of the previous four.
“The break (away from St Mary’s) was long but now it comes to an end, which is good,” Hasenhüttl said.
“The last weeks have been very intense but we must be fresh for the last test at home.
“Then we have one more week before we start – hopefully in a good shape.”
Visitors FC Köln, promoted from the second tier of German football last season, racked up the goals in their first two friendlies, but have lost two of their last three.
The Billy Goats, as they are known, were victorious last time they faced an English side competitively – a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the 2017/18 Europa League.
