Jannik Vestergaard, the only player to complete 90 minutes against Feyenoord, saw plenty of encouraging signs as Saints registered their fourth straight victory of pre-season.
All other players were replaced during the course of the outing at De Kuip, but the Dane was pleased to play the entirety of the game, which saw Saints run out 3-1 winners.
Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side now prepare to face final pre-season opponents FC Köln at St Mary’s next weekend, with Vestergaard particularly looking forward to playing in front of the club’s home support for the first time since the final day of last season.
"Good result, very good team," the defender said. "They gave us a few problems, they're very good on the ball.
"At times we took advantage of it, winning the ball up high, but other times they managed to play through our pressure.
"We have to deal with that. Positives to take but overall I think this is a good result, yet we still have room for improvement.
"We stuck to what we do well which is trying to interrupt their rhythm. We hurt them where they are vulnerable, which is when they lose the ball.
"It's been a very good week as a whole; the conditions in Ireland were good and we tried to put the things we've learnt from the week into practise today.
"We're looking forward to playing at home next week especially and it also means that the Premier League is near, so that's something I'm excited about."
