Maya Yoshida reflected on a great experience in Macau after Southampton rounded off their pre-season training camp with a 4-0 success over Guangzhou R&F.
Yoshida captained a young side in the first-half as goals from Che Adams, Shane Long, Yan Valery and Christoph Klarer saw Saints overcome the Chinese Super League outfit.
And the Japan international was pleased with performance in humid conditions at Estádio Campo Desportivo.
“It was really tough. We arrived yesterday so we had a very short preparation time. The temperature and the humidity was madness today to be honest,” Yoshida reflected.
“I think we showed a good performance today, especially in the first-half. Not high intensity but sometimes we controlled the game and managed the game very well.
“We scored a lot of goals so I’m happy for the result and the performance we showed, especially young players showed their quality and desire to the manager.”
He added “It’s been a great experience and it’s good for the young players. It’s good for the club as the Asian football market is getting huge now, especially in China.
“People recognise Southampton much more than they did five years ago so it’s a good step for our football future.”
