Ings at the double in Preston win
Saints chalked up their first win of pre-season on Saturday, inspired by Danny Ings’s first-half brace in the 3-1 win at Preston.
The striker was on target either side of Billy Bodin’s well-taken equaliser, before teenage substitute Jake Vokins added a late third.
Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl was encouraged by seeing many of the things the squad have been working on in training come to fruition at Deepdale.
Squad split for Macau and Dublin trips
This week Saints will take two separate squads to China and Ireland as preparations continue for the new campaign.
A youthful 20-man squad is travelling to Macau, with Fraser Forster, Maya Yoshida and Shane Long adding extra experience, while the bulk of the first team will head to Dublin.
There will be a friendly on Tuesday against Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F. before the two groups come together ahead of Sunday's friendly with Feyenoord in Rotterdam.
Slattery commits future to Saints
Young midfielder Callum Slattery has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at St Mary’s until 2022.
The 20-year-old made his senior debut in the Emirates FA Cup third round tie at Derby in January, before making his first start against Burnley in the Premier League a month later.
“It’s a club I’ve been at since I was eight years old,” he said. “It’s somewhere that I would call home and the club means a lot to me. It’s a club that I want to play at for a long time.”

Saints’ trip to Burnley on the opening day is currently available to Official Saint+ Members, and will reach general sale on Wednesday.
Saints host Fans’ Forum
The club held a special Fans’ Forum last week for 40 supporters who attended every Premier League fixture in 2018/19, home and away.
BBC Radio Solent’s sports editor Adam Blackmore led the evening at Staplewood Campus, with Chief Executive Martin Semmens, Chief Commercial Officer David Thomas and Director of Football Operations Ross Wilson joining First Team Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl on the panel.
Special guest Nelly Gao, daughter of majority shareholder Mr Gao, addressed the room before questions were taken from the floor.

All three games will be played away from home, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the knockout stage.
