Southampton Football Club has handed two-year scholarships to 13 youngsters as part of its latest intake to the Under-18s squad.
A proportion of players have come through the club’s youth ranks, but, significantly, have been joined by a handful of young talents from other clubs, including Manchester City, Birmingham City and Anderlecht.
The group were welcomed to St Mary's earlier this month by Academy Director Matt Hale, who commented on the excitement surrounding the club's newest crop of young players: “We are pleased to see so many of our Under-16 graduates become full-time scholars at Southampton. Many of them have been with the club for seven or eight years.
“They have all worked hard and developed through the Academy system really well.
“It’s testament to the quality of coaching staff we have here at the club, the environment they’ve created and the commitment shown by the boys themselves.
“Adding to that mix the several players who have joined us from other clubs means we’ll have a very competitive Under-18s squad next season.”
