Ché Adams expressed his delight after opening his account so early in his Southampton career, taking just 116 seconds to find the net on his debut for his new club.
The summer signing from Birmingham scored with a low shot on the turn in Altach, where Saints played out a 1-1 draw with their hosts from the Austrian Bundesliga.
Ralph Hasenhüttl swapped his entire starting XI at half time, with Adams saying he feels in perfect condition after playing 45 minutes at the end of a physical week’s training in Austria.
“Obviously I’m delighted to score in my first game, but hopefully there’s more to come,” he said.
“I definitely could’ve had more – as a striker you get greedy, but it’s the first game. I just try to cause a threat to the defence and create chances.
“Thankfully one of those chances has gone in. I could’ve had two more, but on another day, they go in.
“I feel perfect. I’ve had a hard pre-season, but the lads have dug in well and we’ve got more games to come.
“I’ve learned a lot about the team and how the gaffer wants us to play.”
