Saints new signing Moussa Djenepo played 72 minutes as Mali ended their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-2 friendly defeat against Algeria in Qatar.

Mali took the lead after 20 minutes when Moussa Marega converted from the penalty spot, before Algeria, who are managed by former Southampton midfielder Djamel Belmadi, levelled through Baghdad Bounedjah on 42 minutes.

Leeds United winger Hadi Sacko then made it 2-1, but Algeria hit back through a penalty of their own through Youcef Belaili and a late goal from debutant Andy Delort completed the turnaround.

Elsewhere, Sofiane Boufal was also in action as he played 45 minutes of Morocco’s 3-2 defeat to Zambia.

Mwape Musonda’s goal was cancelled out by Hakim Ziyech on 24 minutes. And Ziyech was on the scoresheet again for Morocco to level things at 2-2 after Kings Kangwa had given Zambia the lead. With 15 minutes to go, Red Bull Salzburg defender Enock Mwepu scored the winner.
