Stuart Armstrong’s Scotland were defeated 3-0 by FIFA ranking leaders Belgium at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on Tuesday night.

The midfielder was named in the starting XI, but was withdrawn 32 minutes into the tie when the scoreline was 0-0, before Romelu Lukaku gave the hosts the lead on the stroke of half-time.

The Man United striker doubled his tally in the 57th minute, before Kevin De Bruyne added a third in stoppage time, as Belgium matched Saturday's 3-0 win against Kazakhstan at the same venue; maintaining their 100% Group I record.

Steve Clarke's side now must ready themselves for Hampden Park dates with Russia and Belgium in September, knowing they will need to harvest points from those games to revive any hope of automatic qualification for next year's European championships.
