Dementia Information Session to be held at St Mary's

By SFC Media time Tue 11 Jun Club

Southampton Football Club will be holding a free Dementia Information Session at St Mary's Stadium on Wednesday 19th June.

As part of Saints' commitment to becoming a more dementia-friendly organisation, we will be hosting the session from 6.30pm until 7.30pm in the Markus Liebherr Lounge

You'll learn more about the effects dementia has on a person, and you can sign up to become a ‘Dementia Friend’ as part of an initiative set up by the Alzheimer’s Society.

Back in June 2017, Saints took a giant step in raising awareness of dementia by holding a similar event, where a number of our colleagues pledged their support to the ‘Dementia Friends’ campaign.

Club legend Lawrie McMenemy, who is also an ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society, was one of 20 staff members that took part in several exercises as part of the session, where he also remembered former Saints defender Kevin Moore.

Moore passed away back in April 2013, aged just 55, after battling Pick’s disease, a rare form of dementia. With a growing number of people living with dementia, it’s more important than ever to raise awareness and end the stigmas surrounding the illness.

The stadium is fully accessible, and parking is available onsite. Refreshments will be provided and the session will be no more than one hour.
