Southampton FC Women face a League Cup final against Oxford City Ladies tomorrow, and head coach Marieanne Spacey-Cale is hoping for a big crowd to help drive them over the line.

Saints won all 18 of their South West Regional Women's Football League Premier Division games to lift the title, and they are now aiming for the double, with kick-off in Sunday's match set for 3pm BST at AFC Totton's Testwood Community Stadium.

The team's fanbase has grown as the season has progressed, and Spacey-Cale explained how her players would love to finish with a big crowd for their final fixture of a memorable campaign.

"You speak to the players and you ask them 'How much does the crowd affect you?' or 'Does it drive you forward?' and the majority of them say they just love having big crowds, because it adds to the enjoyment of playing," she said.

"Not only are you producing something on the pitch, but you can see you're producing a fanbase off the pitch.

"Young girls are coming in watching, wanting to get autographs, and wanting to be those players in years to come, so they're acting as role models, but also the support we've had, the noise they've created, the passion that the fans are showing and the enjoyment for the game does drive the players on and makes them step up a bit and makes them think 'These people are here to support us, so we want to support them by producing a performance and producing a win.'

"So the more people we can get into the game on Sunday, the more Saints fans that come and cheer on the club – because that's what we are, part of the club – that will help the girls and will push them even further to produce a performance the badge will be proud of."

Tickets for the game, which kicks off at 3pm BST on Sunday, are £3 for adults, £1 for children over 11, and free for those under 11.

Testwood Community Stadium is found on Salisbury Road, Totton, SO40 2RW.
