Oxford City Ladies vs Southampton FC Women
Southern Region League Cup final
Testwood Community Stadium (AFC Totton)
Sunday 19th May, 3pm BST
SETTING THE SCENE
Saints head into the game as firm favourites, having won the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division with a perfect record of 18 wins from 18 games.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s team are yet to concede on their run to the final, netting 19 goals themselves in the course of their three games in the competition to this point.
The first of those was a 4-0 win over Moneyfields, which was followed by a thumping 9-0 victory away to Wargrave and then a 6-0 triumph over Wycombe Wanderers in the semi-finals.
Oxford have enjoyed a fine season themselves, finishing third in the league this term, winning 13 of their 18 matches.
Both league games this season went the way of Southampton.
The first meeting came in February, when Spacey-Cale’s side won 5-0 at home, with goals from Shannon Sievwright (2), Phoebe Williams, Chloe Newton and Ellie Chaffe.
The teams then faced each other only a few weeks ago, in the final league fixture of the season, with Saints winning 6-0 on the road.
On that occasion, the goals came from Ella Pusey (2), Chaffe, Williams, Georgie Freeland and Newton.
