Southampton FC Women’s player of the season, Shannon Sievwright, is encouraging supporters to help drive the team on in their League Cup final showdown with Oxford City Ladies this Sunday.

After a perfect 18 wins out of 18 to secure promotion and the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division title, Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side now turn their attentions towards trying to secure a second piece of silverware in 2018/19.

The final will take place at AFC Totton’s Testwood Community Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off at 3pm, and Sievwright is hoping there will be a big crowd to roar them on.

“It would be amazing to get a strong crowd,” she said. “I think when we’ve had our record crowds this season it’s driven our performances on.

“Obviously, we just go out and perform the best we can anyway, but I think it just adds that little bit extra.

“There’s been some great songs this season, and I think one of the parents has even created their own song about the team, so that’s been really good to hear.

“Getting a big crowd for the final game would be amazing.”

Whatever the outcome, it will go down as an incredible season for Saints, who have been imperious all year.

“I’m tremendously proud,” Sievwright, who won the Player of the Season award, said of her team.

“But we just need to focus on our next game, the cup final against Oxford, to make sure we end the season on a high then really work hard during the pre-season to make sure we can secure another promotion.”

Tickets for the game cost £3 for adults, £1 for over-11s, and are free for concessions.

Parking is available at AFC Totton, with Testwood Community Stadium found on Salisbury Road, Totton, SO40 2RW.
