Oriol Romeu says there is a sense of excitement within the group ahead of next season, with a vibrant mix of youth and experience vying for places in the squad.

Ralph Hasenhüttl has put his trust into a number of Academy graduates this season, in line with the club’s philosophy of giving young players a chance.

And Romeu says that can only bode well for the future as Saints look forward to a first full season under the boss.

“We are all excited about next season but we’ve seen in the last few games if we’re not on it, if we’re not probably working as well as we did in the last few months so we’re not getting enough points," he said.

“It’s something we need to work on for next season. Pre-season will be tough because we’ll have a lot of things we need to work.

“The young players being involved it’s something that is good for everyone, not just the young kids but the whole team because the club gets better and everyone believes more in the way things are being done.

“It’s good to see that the manager gives them a chance and it’s good to see that if they do well they will be up here with the first team. I think that’s something that the club has to keep doing.”
