Ralph Hasenhüttl is hoping that, having secured Premier League status for next season, Southampton might be able to climb a few more places in the table before the campaign is out.
Saints travel to West Ham United this afternoon for their penultimate game of 2018/19, ahead of a home meeting with Huddersfield Town next Sunday to round things off.
ralph hasenhüttlwe have two more games to focus on getting a few more points and maybe we can climb one or two positions in the table.
Six points could potentially lift the team as high as 12th, although that would require a fairly significant amount of results to go in their favour, but Hasenhüttl is optimistic they might still be able to improve on their current position of 16th.
"We had a very, very intense time, with very tough games," said the Saints manager, reflecting on survival. "Finally, we made it and we were celebrating on Saturday with our fans.
"It was a good moment, I think, a moment we were waiting for and, at the end, I think we deserved to make it clear. It's perfect.
"Now we have two more games to focus on getting a few more points and maybe we can climb one or two positions in the table.
"That would be nice, but, in the end, the most important thing is that the team showed they are able to develop their game and they have made a good job so far."
Hasenhüttl, who has already indicated he will give an opportunity at London Stadium to some players who haven't featured regularly, knows West Ham can be unpredictable opponents, but, after winning 1-0 at Spurs last time out, he is expecting a stern test.
"It is a team that is sometimes playing very well, sometimes not so good," he said.
"But if you win against Tottenham in their stadium, the first team to do so, that is fantastic.
"They have a lot of quality, especially offensively, and also in the defence they have very good players. They are a good, organised team as always. For us, it means we must find a good mixture of pressure in the right moments but also good defending in the last third."
