Southampton FC Women rounded off a perfect season on Sunday afternoon with a 6-0 victory over Oxford City, meaning they’ve taken maximum points from every Southern Region Premier League game faced.

Even more impressive considering this year was the squad’s first under the stewardship of Marieanne Spacey-Cale; Saints began the season as newcomers, but finished it as champions.

They’ll gain automatic promotion to the tier above, conceding just four goals all season, and will join the likes of Cheltenham and Swindon Town in the FA Women's National League for the 2019/20 campaign.

The first of Saints’ six goals was scored by Ellie Chaffe in the fourth minute, as she gathered a tremendous cross-field pass from Ella Morris and finished on the half-volley with her right foot.

England youth international Phoebe Williams added a second midway through the first half, before Georgie Freeland scrambled the ball over the line six minutes before the interval, pouncing on Oxford’s failure to clear.

Ella Pusey netted the visitors’ fourth and fifth, the second of which was a well-taken penalty, before Chloe Newton headed Saints’ finale in the 76th minute.

The triumph closes out a terrific maiden season for Spacey-Cale's side, as well as giving Saints an upper hand in next month's League Cup final meeting with Oxford, which takes place at AFC Totton on May 19th.
