Saints close out season at Oxford

Having already wrapped up the league title with a game to spare, some may forgive Marieanne Space-Cale’s side for taking a relaxed approach to Sunday’s curtain closer at Oxford City.

But Southampton FC Women are also on the cusp of securing a perfect league record; 18 played, 18 won. And let up is therefore highly unlikely.

Maximum points are within grasp if Saints manage to see off Oxford this weekend, and would ensure that they’ve not only finished the season as champions, but also won every league encounter they’ve faced. Some feat.

Last weekend’s thrashing of Barton Rovers saw Saints officially crowned champions, in front of a bumper crowd at AFC Totton, but this week’s task is seeing out the season in true style against the league’s third placed side.

Saints also face Oxford in a fortnight’s time, as they contest the League Cup Final, which will be held at AFC Totton on May 19th, 3pm BST.
