As part of Southampton Football Club’s Equality and Diversity Week of Action, today we’re taking a look at the work the club does to help those with dementia.

In June 2017, Southampton Football Club took a key step towards helping end the stigma surrounding dementia by enrolling as a Dementia Friend, raising awareness of dementia in the local community.

There are more than 2,500 people living with dementia in Southampton. Creating a dementia-friendly environment at our stadium will help reduce stigma and make people feel confident, understood and supported to be a valuable part of society.

As part of our commitment to helping to make a difference to those living with dementia, we are providing information through awareness sessions at St Mary’s Stadium to equip our staff and the wider community with an understanding of dementia and the small things they can do to make a difference to people living with it.

In addition to becoming one of the many local businesses and high-profile organisations to have joined the local Dementia Action Alliance, we have also created an Action Plan, which you can view here, where we have pledged to make changes that can make the city more accessible to those with dementia.

You can find out more at our Dementia Friends information session, open to the public, at St Mary’s Stadium on Wednesday 19th June 2019 from 6pm-7pm. For more information, or to book your place please contact our Supporter Relations Team of Dementia Friends on 02380 711980.
