Mario Lemina is itching to be part of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s improving Southampton.
The midfielder made his first appearance of 2019 in the 3-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday, arriving off the bench to score on his return from injury at St James’ Park.
After four months on the sidelines, Lemina is determined to make an impact in Saints’ last four games of the season and ensure the club remain in the Premier League.
“I was really happy to be part of this game, because I have not played since December, which is really frustrating,” he said, speaking after the Newcastle match.
“There has been a lot of change. The manager has come and I only played two games with him.
“I have seen other players doing well and step up their level. I was on my own trying to come back – now I am back, I will try to help the team get to 40 points.
“They are really good at the moment. This game has not been as good as the last few games, but I really appreciate the manager. He has done really well with the players.
“At the end, I am really happy to be back on the team. I need to work really hard to be part of the last four games.”
