Hasenhüttl enjoys selection challenge

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl heads into Saturday's Premier League game against Wolves with Danny Ings back in contention and no fresh injury worries, with the Saints boss expecting that he may have to disappoint a few players when he names his side.

Mario Lemina remains sidelined for the match, as does long-term absentee Michael Obafemi, but, with Ings available again after missing last Friday's match with parent club Liverpool, Hasenhüttl has close to a full squad to choose from.

it's about finding the best xi and not the best single player.

"On the one side it is nice, but if you turn the table then you'll see it's more pressure as a manager to find a first XI," he said.

"So it can be at the weekend that one or two players are sitting on the bench who don't expect it, but they have to know that all I do when I create a first XI in the shape for winning a game is that I am very concentrated on the tactical aspects I need.

"If I think the strengths of particular players fits together perfectly then it's not about that they hadn't played well in the last games, but it's about finding the best XI and not the best single player.

"It's always the most difficult decision a manager has to take, but I have to take it.

"Sometimes I explain it, sometimes they understand it, sometimes not. That's also ok. There's frustration if you don't play in a home game – that's normal. Otherwise they wouldn't be sportsmen who want to be successful, but, at the end of the day, it's about the team and the club winning the game, therefore we have to step back a little bit with our ego and look at what is best for the team."
