Under-23s set for International Cup showdown

Southampton Under-23s have a chance to book their place in the final of the Premier League International Cup tournament this week, as they host Dinamo Zagreb, at St Mary’s, on Wednesday night.

Radhi Jaïdi’s team started their campaign with a 1-0 win over Zagreb in the group stages, and will be hoping for a repeat result this week, as they chase an extremely prestigious piece of silverware.

The winner of the match will progress to face Bayern Munich in the final, and you can secure a FREE ticket for Wednesday’s game (7.45pm kick-off) by clicking here.

Under-23s give title hopes a boost

Southampton Under-23s warmed up for the International Cup by jumping back to the top of Premier League 2’s Division 2 standings with a thumping 4-1 win over Norwich City, at Staplewood, on Friday night.

Goals from Dan N’Lundulu, Tom O’Connor, Tyreke Johnson and Will Smallbone secured all three points for Radhi Jaïdi’s side, who moved two points above Wolves, who play their game in hand – away to Aston Villa – tonight.

Saints, who are guaranteed at least a play-off place, now have just two games left in their league campaign, away to West Brom and home to Sunderland, as they look to secure top spot and automatic promotion into Division 1.

Women make it 14 out of 14

There’s still no stopping Southampton FC Women, who kept their perfect run in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division going with a 9-0 home win over Ascot United on Sunday.

A record crowd of 302 watched Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s team in action at AFC Totton’s Testwood Community Stadium, and they were treated to a spectacular display, with goals from Ellie Chaffe, Chloe Newton, Georgie Freeland (2), Shannon Sievwright, Ella Pusey (2) and Emily Wernham (2).

Saints, who have won all 14 of their league games this season, remain in second place, behind AFC Bournemouth CST, who won 4-0 at Oxford City, but still with two games in hand over their title rivals.

Under-18s win seven-goal thriller

Southampton Under-18s launched a memorable comeback away to Leicester City on Saturday, as they came from 2-0 down to win a thrilling encounter 4-3.

Paul Hardyman’s side had been trailing by two at half-time, but Christian Norton sparked the fightback on 53 minutes.

Leicester did restore their two-goal lead on 71 minutes, but a Norton penalty, a Jack Turner equaliser and then a Tom Sams own-goal deep into added time gave Saints all three points, as they maintain their control of fourth position in the Under-18 Premier League.
