Ryan Bertrand believes Southampton look “a proper team” under Ralph Hasenhüttl – win, lose or draw.
The defender was speaking after the 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League on Friday night, in which the title-chasing visitors needed two goals in the final ten minutes to claim maximum points.
Bertrand feels Saints are working together on the pitch and have become more solid as a unit, helping them compete against the best.
“Whether we get the points or not, I think if you look at Southampton now you see a proper team – a very good outfit capable of giving anyone a game,” he said.
“That’s the most important thing, to see that progression, and I think we’ve done that.
“It’s a complete difference from the team you saw previously to now. Long may that continue, and hopefully we can keep working to get better.
“We feel together. For long periods of the game we feel solid, we’re pressing together, working together and getting our rewards.
“As long as we secure our safety in the Premier League, that’s the main thing, and we look well on course for that. Hopefully we can get the points we need and look forward to next season.”
