Pierre-Emile Højbjerg lauded the impact and influence of Nathan Redmond after Southampton’s 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

Redmond collected a pass from Stuart Armstrong, before driving at the heart of Brighton’s defence and slipping in Højbjerg for what proved to be the winner.

And the Saints skipper was quick to thank for his contribution, not only at Brighton but on the team as a whole, which he says is testament to the hard yards he puts in.

“It’s good and thank you to Nathan for his great ball. With his quality, I just respect him by finishing it and he put me in with a great ball and I just finished the job.

“Most importantly, I’m helping the team any way I can help it. This time it was with a goal so that’s what I did.

“Me and Nathan came at the same time three years ago. To see how Nathan is not only growing as a player but as a person is remarkable and credit to him for working hard, staying calm, bringing joy, bringing happiness but also great quality to the team.

“Sometimes it is easy to just judge a player on the performance every Saturday but if one day you got to see the work behind the scenes, what he does after training and his own exercises to prepare himself mentally and physically.

“That’s what it is all about and Nathan has the quality to be one of the best in his position in the league. He’s in a good place at the moment.”
