Both Stuart Armstrong and Jan Bednarek recorded much-needed victories in EURO 2020 qualifying on Sunday night, the former getting their first points on the board for the campaign.

The Scots emerged 2-0 victors over San Marino to follow up on Thursday’s disappointing defeat to Kazakhstan in Astana.

Armstrong was twice denied by home goalkeeper Elia Benedettini - the second of which was a fine save low down - but little else threatened the San Marino goal besides the game’s only goals from Kenny McLean and Johnny Russel, either side of half-time.

The Saints midfielder was replaced by James Forrest with 19 minutes left to play as the visitors saw out an uncomfortably close encounter.

Later in the evening, team-mate Bednarek watched on as late second-half goals from Robert Lewandowski and Kamil Glik helped Poland to the top of Group G with a 2-0 win over Latvia in Warsaw.
