Jake Hesketh's MK Dons were held to a 1-1 draw by Stevenage over the weekend, but the point was enough to lift them into League Two's automatic promotion spots.

Nearest rivals Mansfield Town were without a fixture, and therefore have a game in hand on the Dons, but temporarily at least, Paul Tisdale's side occupy one of three promotion places on offer, in pursuit of League One football next term.

Ilias Chair opened the scoring for play-off chasing Stevenage on the half-hour mark, before second-half substitute Chuks Aneke returned his 17th of the season to salvage a precious point for the hosts.

Elsewhere in the EFL, Sheffield Wednesday continued their surge towards the Championship play-offs as they saw off Harry Reed's Blackburn Rovers by four goals to two at Hillsborough; extending their unbeaten run to 11 games.

Steven Fletcher gave the Owls an early lead, and second-half goals from Atdhe Nuhiu, Dominic Iorfa and Marco Matias maintained their impressive run since Steve Bruce took over last month. Reed was involved in 56 minutes of the tie before being withdrawn for Craig Conway.

On the continent, Read Madrid were 2-0 victors over Celta Vigo, where both Sofiane Boufal and Wesley Hoedt were involved in their latest La Liga encounter.

Isco and Gareth Bale were the match-winners at Santiago Bernabeu, meaning Celta slipped into the bottom three.

Staying in Spain, Guido Carrillo was a 65th minute substitute during Leganes' 2-0 home loss to Girona. A Christian Portu brace, scored in the first 22 minutes of the game, secured all three points for the visitors.

In Eredivisie, Jordy Clasie's Feyenoord twice led against Willem II before succumbing to a 3-2 loss. Clasie played 74 minutes, before being replaced by Nicolai Jorgensen.
