Kick-off your week by getting up to speed on the latest developments across all levels at Southampton Football Club with our Monday Briefing...
Valery opens account in style
Saints were left disappointed with the result but left their travelling supporters with a couple of moments to savour at Old Trafford.
Young defender Yan Valery stunned David De Gea with a first-half wonder goal – his first in senior football – before James Ward-Prowse’s brilliant free-kick later levelled the scores at 2-2.
Even after Romelu Lukaku’s late winner for the hosts, Angus Gunn made a name for himself by keeping out Paul Pogba’s stoppage-time penalty on only his fourth Premier League appearance.
Last few Spurs tickets available
Buoyed by an encouraging performance on the road, Saints are back on home soil when they welcome Tottenham to St Mary’s on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Tickets have been in high demand for the clash with Spurs, who are fighting to protect their position in the Premier League’s top four.
Supporters can still purchase tickets online, but are encouraged to act fast to avoid disappointment.
Liverpool tickets on sale to eligible supporters
Today is the first day supporters can purchase tickets for Saints’ following home game, against Liverpool, on Friday 5th April (8pm kick-off).
Tickets are available online to 2018/19 Official Members with a 2018/19 purchase history, before going on sale to members with a purchase history since 2014/15 from Thursday.
Under-23s welcome Villarreal
Radhi Jaïdi’s side will be looking to bounce back from Friday’s home defeat to Reading in PL2 when they host Villarreal in the quarter-finals of the Premier League International Cup on Wednesday (7pm kick-off).
The young Saints do not return to league action until next Monday when they travel to fellow promotion hopefuls Wolves.
Victory for Under-18s at Brighton
It was a good weekend for Paul Hardyman’s team, who were 3-1 winners at Brighton in the Under-18 Premier League.
Will Ferry, Christian Norton and Kornelius Hansen were on target. Like the first team, the Under-18s will next face Tottenham – in north London on Friday.
Women’s game rained off
Southampton FC Women’s trip to Barton Rovers Ladies on Sunday afternoon was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Having already booked their place in the League Cup final, Saints will have to wait until Sunday for the next opportunity to extend their unblemished league record, hosting Woodley United at AFC Totton’s Testwood Stadium (2pm kick-off).
A Game of Two Halves is back!
Raising funds for Saints Foundation, the popular quiz night A Game of Two Halves, supported by InComm, returns for its third edition on Wednesday.
Charlie Austin will lead his team alongside Jack Stephens, Shane Long and Oriol Romeu, who will go head to head with Matt Le Tissier's Legends team, supported by Rickie Lambert, Francis Benali and Ken Monkou. Tickets are available here.
