Southampton FC Women booked a spot in their League Cup final with a thumping 6-0 win over Wycombe Ladies on Sunday afternoon.
Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side set up a clash with Oxford City, who edged out Abingdon United 2-1 in their semi-final, as they chase a first piece of silverware.
It was a dominant performance from Saints at Bisham Abbey, and they wasted no time setting about the task, taking the lead in only the second minute, as Ellie Chaffe dispatched a free-kick into the top left-hand corner.
The lead was doubled after 19 minutes when a Chloe Newton cross was deflected away by a Wycombe defender, but only as far as Phoebe Williams, who sent a right-footed strike back into the bottom left-hand corner.
Two became three on 25 minutes, as Newton turned from provider to scorer, being picked out by Shelly Provan’s cross and directing the ball into the bottom corner with her right foot.
Saints then made sure the tie was put beyond all doubt before half-time, as they added another two goals.
First it was Georgie Freeland, who was found by another Provan cross in the 37th minute before taking the ball past a defender and firing a superb shot into the top corner.
Chaffe then added the fifth, bagging her second of the game, as she fired a left-footed strike into the bottom corner from Emma Godden’s cross on 40 minutes.
With five already in the bag at the interval, Saints were able to focus on controlling the ball in the second half, although they still worked themselves a final goal.
It came in the 76th minute, as Chaffe completed her hat-trick.
It was initiated by another Provan ball, this time through to Ella Pusey, who had only just been introduced as a sub, and she crossed for Chaffe to tap in and complete the scoring.
