As Southampton head into February off the back of an unbeaten start to 2019, Ralph Hasenhüttl says the consistency the team has been showing is something they must continue to carry forward.
Two wins and two draws in January have helped to lift Saints four points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, ahead of another crucial pair of fixtures, which begins with Saturday's trip to Burnley before a home game against Cardiff a week later.
ralph hasenhüttlfour games unbeaten in the premier league is more than we could expect.
The team's most recent result saw them fight back to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace, and the resilience they have been displaying has pleased Hasenhüttl.
The Saints boss said: "I think it was important to show that it is not so easy to beat us.
"We didn't play our best game [against Palace]. It was a new game for us, with a lot of ball possession, and we aren't used to playing against such a deep defence.
"The positive thing was that we were patient enough to wait for the right moment and we scored a fantastic goal to bring us back against an opponent who is also battling against relegation and that was a very important point we took out of this game, and we showed it is a positive way we are in at the moment.
"Four games unbeaten in the Premier League is more than we could expect. It is important to take the points consistently, and I think we did until now, and that's the way we have to go."
Following Wednesday night's game, Hasenhüttl has had minimal time in which to prepare his side for the visit to Turf Moor, but with a packed schedule having been the theme of his time at the club so far, he is not fazed by it.
"It's not a lot of time, but we've got used to it, because over Christmas we had more of these situations, so it's nothing new for us," he said.
