Under-23s coach Radhi Jaïdi has been especially pleased with how many Academy graduates have earned first-team recognition over the festive period, and predicts the trend to continue as the season progresses.
Kayne Ramsay and Callum Slattery were the latest youngsters to have received promotion to Ralph Hasenhüttl's matchday squad, both appearing on the bench against Chelsea, alongside a host of others who have made Southampton debuts in recent weeks.
Jaïdi's side host Stoke City at Staplewood Campus tomorrow evening, and although the Under-23s are likely to be light on experience, the Tunisian is excited to offer chances to promising members of the Under-18s side, for their opportunity to make a step up to Premier League 2.
"We finished 2018 on a real high," Jaïdi began.
"Their training patterns have mirrored the first-team's over the Christmas period, so they've been working hard.
"We've tried to keep them active, and give them opportunities to be seen by the manager.
"There's been players who have made that transition, and that'll leave us slightly short, but it also gives the younger boys a chance to play with the 23s.
"It's amazing for the Academy staff to see young players progress. It's a great example also, because that's what this club is built on.
"It makes my job easier that the manager has faith in our younger players - it's motivation. They can see and feel opportunity, so that'll only help them improve."
