Ralph Hasenhüttl says he will continue to give young players a chance after Kayne Ramsay made his Southampton debut against Manchester City on Sunday.

In doing so, Ramsay became the youngest player in the Premier League to start a match this season at 18 years and 81 days, ahead of Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon and Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp.

The full-back was one of six changes from the home meeting with West Ham and Hasenhüttl believes it was important that he got to see some fresh faces in action.

“It was one goal to have a view on all the guys who have practiced under my management and for the young players to have a good experience against a fantastic team.

“That’s what we tried to do and we are always demanding to give these players a chance. I think it was a very important game for Kayne and I think he did a good job.

“It’s our future and we have to work on that. For me, it was an interesting pressure because now the transfer period comes and I have to know which players I can count on.

“I think he will learn a lot as it was one of the best teams in the world we came up against today. It’s an amazing experience for such a young guy like he is.”
