Coach Craig Fleming has been promoted from the Academy to join Ralph Hasenhüttl’s staff on an initial basis until the end of the season, Southampton Football Club can confirm.

Fleming, who had been working alongside Radhi Jaïdi in the Under-23s set-up, has moved into the role of First Team Assistant Coach.

The former Norwich defender initially joined Saints in 2015 as Lead Under-18s Coach and has been a key figure in the development of many of the club’s youngsters who have been recruited to the Under-18 and Under-23 squads, and also those who have progressed to those levels from a younger age within the academy development phases.

Fleming, who had been supporting the first-team coaching staff since the visit to Tottenham earlier this month, has helped oversee the progress of the likes of Michael Obafemi, Yan Valery and Tyreke Johnson, who have all been involved in the senior side this season.

He will now work under Hasenhüttl initially until the end of the campaign, joining Assistant First Team Manager Danny Röhl and fellow First Team Assistant Coach Kelvin Davis, Head of Goalkeeping Dave Watson and Head of Sports Science Alek Gross.
