Southampton FC Women bounced back from their SSE Women’s FA Cup exit in fine fashion, with a 3-1 home win over AFC Bournemouth CST.
A fortnight on from their defeat at MK Dons in the second round of the cup, Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s team responded with another three points in the Southern Region Women’s Football League, keeping their 100 per cent record in the competition alive.
The game was moved from AFC Totton’s Testwood Stadium to Staplewood Campus, due to the torrential rain at the weekend, with Saints opening the scoring after 12 minutes.
The goal came from Ellie Chaffe’s shot, which was saved by the Bournemouth keeper, only for Chloe Newton to tap home the rebound.
The game was level at half-time, though, with Meg Vella equalising for the visitors.
It was only a temporary setback, however, as Newton restored the lead after the break, following another rebound off the keeper.
Newton then completed her hat-trick, heading in to seal victory.
