A performance full of promise, Radhi Jaïdi heaped praise on his young side after they saw out the year's competitive fixture schedule with an impressive 2-1 victory over Newcastle.
The win comes just four days after Tuesday night's success over West Ham, and was again observed by first-team boss Ralph Hasenhüttl, who will no doubt be encouraged by what he's seen from Saints' younger generation in the past week or so.
Will Smallbone and Jonathan Afolabi were both on the scoresheet, rounding off a successful first half of the season - with Saints lifting themselves to second spot in PL2 ahead of a brief Christmas break.
"That will finish the year on a high," Jaïdi began. "I'm more pleased with the performance, there was only one team in it.
"We pressed them high, and prevented them from playing out. We were unlucky not to score first half.
"We were patient, and kept dominating the game. Very pleased with the three points.
"In relation to the table, we're looking strong. This result was key, in terms of competing for the top two spots in PL2.
"We've sent good messages to the first-team staff and manager again - there's players here who are capable of pushing towards that level.
"We pressed with good intensity all night. It's very encouraging to see."
