Imaginations have been sparked over the last few weeks as Saints Foundation schools have taken part in the Premier League’s Writing Stars competition.
Across Southampton, students have been penning poems about diversity – celebrating the differences that we all have. The best poems will be entered into a nationwide competition where the winners will receive incredible prizes, including a visit from the Premier League trophy to their school.
A host of celebrities have also got involved from famous footballers like Rio Ferdinand to TV personalities such as Rachel Riley. So far, it has proven hugely popular within our city’s schools, but don’t worry if your school hasn’t signed up yet. The competition is running until 21st December, so there is still plenty of time to enter.
To get some of our students into the spirit, we gave them the opportunity to appear in a short video where they read this year’s headline poem: Wonderfully Different, Beautifully The Same by Joseph Coelho.
You can watch their effort in the video here; we hope it can give you some inspiration too!
Our four staff members, Primary Stars work alongside local Primary schools to upskill teachers in their PE delivery as well as helping students to improve in Maths, English and PSHE. They are also on hand to improve students’ resilience and emotional wellbeing.
