Southampton FC Women cruised through to the third round of the Hampshire FA Women’s Challenge Cup with a thumping 11-1 victory over Basingstoke at the weekend.

Five first-half goals, and a six-goal haul in the second period were more than decisive for Marieanne Spacey-Cale's side, who maintain their 100 per cent winning record for another week.

Star of the show, Chloe Newton bagged four goals herself, two either side of the break, while further strikes came from Georgie Lowe (3), Sam Burt, Aliss Wheeler, Shelly Proven and Ellie Chaffe.

Captain Provan also earned her own plaudits, having claimed a hat-trick of assists inside the opening 25 minutes of the tie.

The win sets up a south coast derby clash with Portsmouth Ladies, of the FA WPL Premier Division, in the Hampshire Cup quarter-final, which will take place in mid-January.
