Austin’s passionate post-match reaction

Charlie Austin wore his heart on his sleeve after Southampton were denied all three points during the 1-1 draw against Watford in the Premier League.

Austin saw his goal wrongly ruled out for offside with Saints leading 1-0, with the officials deeming that the ball had hit Maya Yoshida on the way through.

Under-23s in Checkatrade Trophy action

Southampton’s youngsters take on Southend United on Wednesday at Roots Hall. The group is evenly-poised, with all sides locked on three points after two games.

Saints opened their account in the competition with a 2-0 away win at Colchester United before falling to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Cambridge.

The Shrimpers, managed by Chris Powell, are currently 13th in League One.

Under-23s held in the Premier League Cup

Radhi Jaidi’s side were also forced to settle for a 1-1 draw as Newcastle United struck late at Staplewood Campus on Friday night.

Marcus Barnes curled home with his left foot to register his ninth goal of the season in the first-half, before Elias Sorensen’s leveller on 88 minutes.

Under-18s suffer Stoke revival

Saints youngsters had taken a commanding lead into the interval during their Premier League Cup clash with Stoke City, thanks to goals from Will Ferry and Benni Smales-Braithwaite.

But a second-half hat-trick from Ethon O’Driscoll-Varian secured maximum points for the visitors.

Celebrating progression in the FA Cup

Southampton FC Women booked their place in the SSE Women’s FA Cup second round with a 3-0 success against Poole Town Ladies on Sunday.

Georgie Freeland opened the scoring for Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side, before further goals from Shannon Sievwright and Ella Pusey put the game out of sight and sent them into today’s second round draw.

Next up is an away meeting with Basingstoke Town in the Hampshire Senior Cup on Sunday 18th November at 2pm GMT.
