Getting started on the career ladder can be hard work. But, for those in Southampton aged between 16-25 and who are not in education, employment or training, the task can be even tougher.
Here at Saints Foundation, we are always striving to turn potential into excellence and it is no different with this group. Our Saints Works programme looks to get them ready for work using employability strategies alongside qualifications. This programme also looks to boost confidence and self-esteem.
In partnership with Youth Employment UK, we bring together employers and our cohort to help them find their opportunity. More than 10 companies from a variety of industries joined us at St Mary’s to meet the participants and give them more of an insight into what it is like to work for their companies.
One individual who knows the importance of events like this is Charlotte Burton. She has been part of the Saints Works programme for a year and, following the work she has done with the Foundation, has now found herself back in work.
Speaking about her experience with us, she said: “This programme has allowed me to have more control. It’s boosted my confidence and allowed me to get back into work. I can’t thank Saints Foundation enough.”
First impressions made and contact details swapped, the rest of our young group were well connected with local businesses and left feeling optimistic about their potential opportunities.
David Warnes heads up the programme and he was thrilled with how the day went. He added: “This event is great for our participants to meet with employers and get a feel for jobs that they are interested in. They all have different interests, so to be able to give them that choice is fantastic.”
