Cédric's Portugal see off Scotland

By SFC Media time Sun 14 Oct International

Cédric and Portugal emerged victorious as he went head to head with Stuart Armstrong’s Scotland at Hampden Park in an international friendly.

The Saints duo both started the game, which saw Fernando Santos’s men run out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Helder Costa, Eder and Bruma.

Despite a more encouraging display than their 2-1 defeat to Israel in the UEFA Nations League, the hosts fell behind just before half-time when Kevin Rodrigues’s cut back found Costa and he tapped home.

That was added to when Eder headed home an inch-perfect Renato Sanches cross on 74 minutes.

On 77, Armstrong was forced off with an injury and replaced by Kevin McDonald.

And there was further misery inflicted when Bruma was released by an incisive Gedson Fernandes pass, cutting inside past Graeme Shinnie to fire a right-footed effort into the top corner.

Steven Naismith added a consolation in stoppage time after a clever work from Gary Mackay-Steven inside the box.

In the UEFA Nations League, there was late heartbreak for Jan Bednarek and Poland as Cristiano Biraghi's stoppage time effort gave Italy all three points.

After a series of failed short corners throughout, Lorenzo Insigne's ball was headed on by substitute Kevin Lasagna and Biraghi slid in at the back post to give Roberto Mancini his first competitive win in charge.
