Four Saints will kick off the October international break this evening with Jan Bednarek, Cédric, Stuart Armstrong and Angus Gunn all set to be in action for their respective nations.

The defensive pair will face off against each other in Chorzow on Thursday night (7.45pm unless stated) as Poland look to overturn Portugal’s early advantage at the top of their UEFA Nations League group in a rematch of the EURO 2016 quarter-finals, won on penalties by Portugal.

Cédric’s side kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Italy last month while Bednarek and co held the same opposition to a 1-1 draw in Bologna.

Elsewhere in the new UEFA competition, Armstrong’s Scotland head to Israel where they will seek a fourth consecutive win over the hosts who are joined in Group C1 by Albania. A victory for Israel would leave all three teams tied on three points after two fixtures.

Although Scotland have lost five of their six friendlies since the last World Cup qualifying campaign, they are unbeaten in seven competitive fixtures since a 3-0 loss to England at Wembley in November 2016.

At U21 level, Gunn and the Young Lions face the final two hurdles to secure their place at the European Championships in Italy next summer.

Six points clear with two matches remaining, avoiding defeat against Andorra in Chesterfield tonight and Scotland in Edinburgh next Tuesday will seal the deal for Aidy Boothroyd’s team.
