Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has returned to the club from England duty as a precautionary measure.

McCarthy was part of the Three Lions squad for their UEFA Nations League games against Croatia and Spain over the course of the international week.

The Saints keeper linked up with the group while nursing a minor injury, and, while he has made positive progress in the past few days, it was decided the best course of action would be for him to return to Staplewood to continue his recovery over the break in the Premier League schedule.
