Jaïdi: Keeping up traditions

Radhi Jaïdi’s Under-23s embark upon their fifth competition of an already busy season tomorrow, with the visit of Leeds to Staplewood Campus in the Premier League Cup.

Saints’ youngsters made it to the knockout phases of this competition last season, having also won it outright in 2015, and Jaïdi is keen for another strong showing this time around.

Hoping to be able to rotate some personnel when the Yorkshire side - top of their respective league standings - make the long trip southward, Jaïdi conceded that there were some tired legs in the latter stages of the weekend’s meeting with Reading, and will be intent on injecting some fresh impetus into his side's play.

“We're looking forward to this one. It is a competition that we've done well in previously, and we want to progress as far as possible,” he said.

“We'll be giving some game time to the boys who haven't had as much opportunity so far this season.

“I’m still looking for a positive performance, against a good team. They're top of their league, so it will be challenging.

“We're involved in five competitions and it is a lot to manage. The number of games is good, but also tiring. So we need to change it up a bit.

“Leeds probably play a different style of football to us. They'll be confident, having had some good results recently.

“That can only be positive for us and a challenge, of course.”
