McCarthy named in England squad

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy has again been named in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man England squad for their October internationals.

McCarthy was called-up for the Three Lions’ fixtures against Spain in the UEFA Nations League and Switzerland in a friendly in September, but is still waiting to earn a first senior cap.

Last season’s Under Armour Fans’ Player of the Year, McCarthy has picked up where he left off last season, with a string of solid domestic performances and some stand out saves.

England face an away double-header in the UEFA Nations League, taking on Croatia on Friday 12th October in Rijeka, before facing Spain in Seville on Monday 15th October.

Everton's Jordan Pickford, Fulham's Marcus Bettinelli and Stoke City's Jack Butland complete the pool of goalkeepers.
