Mark Hughes has underlined the importance of seizing an opportunity to record back-to-back wins in the Premier League when Brighton visit on Monday.
Southampton host the Seagulls in a south coast showdown under the St Mary's floodlights, as they look to build on their 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace last time out.
Saints haven't won successive top-flight games since April 2017, and Hughes wants his side to make sure they don't let this chance slip by.
"It's an opportunity, and it's one that we mustn't pass up if we're honest," he said.
mark hughesi just sense the group is in a good place at the moment. we want to get that win everybody wants.
"Back-to-back wins will always push you up the league. Draws are ok and you can console yourself with the manner of your performances, but you have to get maximum points. So we don't want to pass this opportunity up.
"I don't think there's been too many occasions in recent times when we've been able to get back-to-back wins in the Premier League, so that needs to change, because if we want to have the season we're looking for then we're going to have to go to places and win away games, then back it up with good performances and positive results at home, and that's our intention."
Standing in Saints' way will be a Brighton side that have also collected four points from their opening four games, with their one win coming at home to Manchester United, and Hughes anticipates there will have to be an element of patience from his team as they look to break Chris Hughton's men down.
"They're always well organised and have a real understanding of what they're trying to achieve in every game they play," said Hughes.
"They've had good results already this season – a great result against Man U – so they know what they're about, they know what they're trying to accomplish in games, so we'll have to be ready.
"They're very solid, so there may be occasions where we have to be a little bit patient in terms of what we're trying to do and make sure we don't get caught out, but I just sense the group is in a good place at the moment and we want to get that win that everybody wants."
